Wet Scrubbers for Particulate, Gases

What is a Wet Scrubber?

A Wet Scrubber is an air pollution control system that uses a liquid to remove contaminants from a gas stream.

Removal is achieved by bringing the gas stream into contact with the scrubbing liquid, which facilitates mass transfer of the contaminants into the liquid. As the water recirculates, fresh water purges contaminants and replaces evaporation losses. Fresh water may be added to the recycle continuously or periodically.

Wet scrubbers are particularly effective in removing PM that is:

  • Sticky or hygroscopic
  • Combustible, corrosive or explosive
  • Difficult to remove in dry form
  • Co-mingled with soluble gases
  • Resident in waste gas streams with high moisture content

Advantages of Wet Scrubbers

Wet scrubbers advantages

  • High-humidity gases and sticky particles can be processed without equipment plugging.
  • Hot gases are handled easily, with gases cooled at the collector inlet.
  • There are no fire or explosion hazards.
  • Collected material is free of fugitive dust, and easy to handle.
  • In the case of Tri-Mer wet scrubbers, all system modules, including packed towers, mist eliminators, ducting and exhaust stacks, are manufactured in the USA, at Tri-Mer’s Corporation's central Michigan campus.

Wet Scrubber design is guided by 5 primary factors:

Packed Bed Height, which relates to the contact time needed to achieve mass transfer between the polluted gas stream and the scrubbing liquid; Scrubbing Liquid and the chemicals for pH adjustment where needed; Liquid Flow Rate; Target Gas Velocity, and Materials of Construction.

Tri-Mer unique features of fan / seperator
Tri-Mer world leader in air pollution control

Tri-Mer designs and manufactures wet scrubbers to meet every industrial, process and municipal requirement. Tri-Mer systems remove inorganic gases, odors, fumes, chrome, NOx, coarse, fine and ultrafine particulate, mercury and other heavy metals, HCl, Cl2, SO2, and HF.

Tri-Mer wet scrubber installations operate in all 48 contiguous states, Central and South America, and across Europe and Asia. Applications include semiconductor manufacturing, boilers, incinerators, metal processing and metal finishing, every corner of the food/cosmetic, pharma and chemical processing industries, and asphalt manufacturing.
